You should know that a bank probationary officer post is the entry level position at which a bank officer starts work after posting. Typically, a bank PO undergoes a 2 year probation period or training and then gets the post of Assistant Manager on joining a branch. Normal prospect of this job is general banking and bank administration; however, bank POs are expected to possess excellent communication skills and the ability to resolve conflicts in a cool and calm manner.

Before the completion of the probation period, which is for 2 years, he/she can be asked to perform any kind of bank related activity; it can be the clerk or assistant type of job. This is done to get them acquainted with various working procedures of the bank.

During the probation period they are trained for having the practical knowledge in finance, accounting, marketing, billing as well as investment. This is done by entrusting them with jobs of various categories, viz. any of the routine works such as scrolling, posting, account preparation etc.

There are number of other perks available to Bank officers and these vary from bank to bank, and even the amount of such perks vary from bank to bank.   SBI gives more perks than all other nationalised banks.  Some of the perks available to Bank officers are :-

(a) Leased Accommodation :  As mentioned above this facility is available to Bank officers in lieu of HRA.   At some stations, some banks may offer official bank accommodation / bank quarters in lieu of leased accommodation.   The lease amount vary from bank to bank and place of postings. However, you should remember that this amount is not available as cash component and will directly go to the house owner - you have got leased.

(b) Traveling Allowance : Some banks allow fixed Traveling Allowance whereas others allow reimbursement of petrol bills i.e. officer must own  scooter / car at the place of posting

(c) Newspaper Reimbursement : A fixed monthly amount is paid towards the cost of one newspaper

(d) Medical Aid : A fixed annual amount is paid by most of the banks (Revised amount is Rs8000/- p.a.)
