1. China launches pulsar navigation satellite XPNAV-1

1. China launched a pulsar test satellite XPNAV-1 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. The satellite was carried by a Long March-11 rocket.
2. It was the 239th flight mission by a Long March carrier rocket.
The satellite and the rocket were designed by academies affiliated with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp.
3. Highlights of the pulsar test satellite XPNAV-1
• This X-ray pulsar navigation satellite weighs more than 200 kilogrammes.
• It operates in a Sun-synchronous orbit and will conduct in-orbit experiments using pulsar detectors to demonstrate new technologies. 
• While in orbit, the satellite will undergo tests on its detector functions and space environment adaptability.


2. Jacob Zuma survives opposition’s no-confidence motion

1. Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa, survived yet another no confidence vote in the parliament. The country’s ruling party, African National Congress (ANC) voted against opposition’s motion demanding for Zuma’s removal.
2. Zuma’s career in politics has been rigged with controversies and allegations. Corruption charges followed him into his presidency and have continued to haunt him hence. An anti-corruption probe last week raised fresh allegations of misconduct against him.


3. Noted geophysicist Janardhan Negi passes away

1. Noted geophysicist Janardhan G Negi passed away in Hyderabad following a brief illness. He was 81.
2. He was known for making outstanding contribution in understanding earthquakes, mass extinctions, especially dinosaurs and the movement of the Indian sub-continent plates.


4. City Union Bank launches India’s first banking robot Lakshmi in Chennai

1. India’s first banking robot named Lakshmi was launched by the Kumbakonam-based City Union Bank (CUB) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Lakshmi will be first on-site huamanoid (robot) in India. 2. Currently, CUB has readied only one version of huamanoid banker and but is planning to deploy 25-30 robots at key branches by end of year if Lakshmi proves a hit with customers.


5. SAIL wins 2016 Golden Peacock Award for corporate governance

1. The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has won the prestigious 2016 Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Governance. 2. The award was received by Ashwini Kumar, CEO of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on behalf of SAIL during the 16th London Global Convention on Corporate Governance and Sustainability in London, UK. 
3. SAIL was bestowed with this award on account of its exemplary performance in the field of corporate governance i.e. for balancing the interests of all the stakeholders of the company management, customers, shareholders, suppliers, financiers, government and the community.


6. Professor Raj Bisaria selected for Kalidas Samman

1. Madhya Pradesh Government has selected renowned theatre personality Prof Raj Bisaria for the prestigious ‘Kalidas Samman’ national award for 2015-16. 
2. He will be bestowed with the prestigious award for achievement in theatre in a ceremony to be held in Ujjain.

7. Narinder Batra becomes first Indian President of Federation of International Hockey
1. Narinder Batra today became the first Indian to be elected the President of the International Hockey Federation after he was voted to the top post by an overwhelming margin during the penultimate day of the 45th FIH Congress, here.
2. Batra, who is the president of Hockey India, defeated David Balbirnie of Ireland and Australia's Ken Read to become the 12th FIH President -- the first Asian to grab the post.
