1. CM Devendra Fadnavis launches Transform Maharashtra initiative 
1. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched Transform Maharashtra initiative in IIT Bombay’s Mood Indigo festival. Under it, he spoke about issues involving role of youth in the governance. 
2. During the launch he had conversation with students on his vision for Maharashtra. Under the initiative, the state government is planning to reach out to one crore youth. It aims to provide an opportunity to college students to put their heads together and come up with policy or programme level solutions to 11 critical challenges being faced by the state at present.

2. MP Government launches Nagar Uday Abhiyan Madhya Pradesh 
1. Government has recently launched “Nagar Uday Abhiyan” in all 378 urban bodies in the state. The main aim the abhiyan is to assess services provided to citizens and bring them at standard live, inform lower income class people residing in slums in urban areas about public welfare schemes. 
2. It also seeks to provide benefit of Antodaya, also inform them about works carried out for urban development and ensure contribution of citizens and other agencies in urban development schemes. The first phase will be held between December 25 and 28, 2016; the 2nd phase will be conducted between January 3 and 15, 2017 and the 3rd phase will take place between January 20 and February 5, 2017.

3. Super Typhoon Nock-ten (Nina) makes Landfall in Philippines 
1. The powerful typhoon “Nock-Ten” recently made landfall at the coast near Catanduanes Island in Philippines with winds up to 140 km/ hour. 
2. The typhoon locally was known as Nina in the Philippines. The typhoon is expected to pass across the main island of Luzon, before heading into the South China Sea. The US Joint Typhoon Warning Centre had forecasted sustained winds of 231 kilometres an hour and gusts of 278 kilometres an hour when the typhoon makes landfall.

4. Gurgaon may become first in country to get Caterpillar Train 
1. Haryana Government has taken the lead to set up a pilot corridor for the “Caterpillar Train (C-Train)”, a new concept for urban mass-transit solution in Gurgaon. 
2. It has been designed by an Indian Railway officer Ashwani Upadhyaya which had won a global award at the MIT in the United States. The C Train concept was co-invented by Ashwani Upadhyaya along with Emil Jacob, both PhD scholars at MIT. C-Train, envisages a citywide network of lightweight, elevated train coaches running at about 100 kmph on a track supported by poles bent into arches.

5. IDFC Bank rolls out Aadhaar Pay for cashless payments to merchants
1. IDFC Bank has announced the nationwide launch of IDFC Aadhaar Pay, the country’s first Aadhaar-linked cashless merchant solution that uses a retailer’s own Android smartphone to enable cashless payments.
2. Developed by IDFC Bank in association with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Aadhaar Pay is ‘unique’, as it does not compel a customer to use cards, download new applications, remember passwords, account numbers, set up virtual payment addresses, type detailed USSD codes to transfer money, or even have a phone to do cashless payments.
3. The solution is expected to enable millions of merchants facilitate cashless purchases for customers in a “cost- effective and scalable” way, supporting the government’s initiatives towards boosting cashless transactions.

6. US Astronomer and dark matter pioneer Vera Rubin passes away 
1. US Astronomer Vera Rubin, whose pioneering work on galaxy rotation rates led to the theory of dark matter passed away. She was 88. In 1974, Rubin had discovered that the stars at the edges of galaxies moved faster than expected. 
2. Her studies had earned her numerous honours, including being the second female astronomer to be elected to the US National Academy of Sciences. Dark matter is an unidentified type of matter that comprises approximately 27% of t mass and energy in the observable universe.

7. PM Narendra Modi lays foundation stone of Char Dham highway development project
1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Char Dham highway development project or Chardham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojna in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. 
2. The Chardham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojna is an ambitious initiative to improve connectivity to the Char Dham pilgrimage centres in the Himalayas.

8. Assam Government launches Health Insurance Scheme Atal-Amrit Abhiyan
1. Assam Government rolled out ‘Atal-Amrit Abhiyan’, a health insurance scheme to provide coverage against several critical illnesses. Atal-Amrit Abhiyan aims to make quality health care affordable to every individual member of a family in the state. 
2. This scheme is claimed to be the biggest health care initiative undertaken by any State Government in the country. It has financial outlay of the scheme is around Rs 200 crore.

9. China tests 5th-generation fighter jet FC-31 Gyrfalcon
1. China has successfully tested the latest version of its fifth-generation stealth fighter jet J-31 (now renamed the FC-31 Gyrfalcon). 
2. The newest version of twin-engine FC-31 took to the air for the first time recently. It is considered as China’s answer to the US F-35, the world’s most technically advanced fighter.
