1. Surgeon Raghu Ram awarded 2016 B C Roy Award

1. Dr P Raghu Ram, President of Association of Breast Surgeons of India was awarded prestigious Dr B C Roy national award for outstanding service in the field of socio-medical relief for 2016. 
2. The award will be conferred on him by President Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion of the Doctors day observed every year on 1st July.


2. China becomes world’s largest producer of solar power

1. China has surpassed Germany to become the world’s largest producer of solar energy after nearly doubling its installed photovoltaic capacity in 2016. 
2. With the increased capacity, China generated 66.2 billion kilowatt-hours of energy last year, which however accounted for only 1% of its electrical output. The country further plans to double its current solar energy capacity by 2020.


3. IAAF Bans Russia From 2017 London World Athletics Championships 

1. Russia will miss August's World Athletics Championships in London after their doping ban was extended, the world governing body president Sebastien Coe said. 
2. Russia has been barred from international competition since November 2015 following a damaging report alleging that state-sponsored doping was rife in the country. The ban had already been extended in March and then June 2016, preventing Russia's athletes from competing at the Rio Olympics.


4. Govt appoints 3 directors on RBI Central Board

1. The Government has appointed three part-time Non-Official Directors on the all-powerful Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India for a four-year term. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Ashok Gulati, Manish Sabharwal and Rajiv Kumar as part-time Non-Official Directors on the Central Board.


5. Union Cabinet approves Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan for rural digital literacy

1. The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved ‘Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan’ (PMGDISHA) to make 6 crore rural households digitally literate by March 2019. 
2. PMGDISHA is expected to be one of the largest digital literacy programmes in the world. This approval comes in line with the announcement made by Union Finance Minister in the Union Budget 2016-17.


6. India to host the first meeting of national security advisers of BIMSTEC countries

1. India will host the first meeting of national security advisers (NSAs) of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) countries to coordinate action against terrorism, extremism and radicalization. 
2. It was offered by India at the BIMSTEC senior officials meeting held in Kathmandu, Nepal.


7. Veteran freedom fighter Racharla Samrajyam passes away 

1. Veteran freedom fighter Racharla Samrajyam passed away following age-related illness at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. She was 98. 
2. She had taken part in freedom struggle after was inspired by the Quit India Movement in 1942at the time when she was undergoing Hindi pracharak training at Anantapur.
