National Current Affairs Railway Ministry launches India’s first Antyodaya Express Indian Railways launched the country’s first Antyodaya Express between Ernakulam (Kerala) and Howrah (West Bengal). Antyodaya Express is a long-distance, fully unreserved, superfast train service, for the common man to be operated on dense routes.

2. Russia and China have vetoed a UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution that aimed to impose sanctions on Syria over chemical weapons use. The resolution was drafted by Britain, France and United States.

3. Reliance Jio has announced collaboration with networking giant Cisco to build world’s largest All-IP Digital Services Platform.

4. Senior IAS officer Sumit Mullick was appointed as the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra.

5. Internationally acclaimed author Neil Gaiman was appointed as a global goodwill ambassador of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Refugee Agency.

6. Indian shuttlers Tarun Kona and Alwin Francis have won the men’s doubles gold at the 2017 Uganda International Series. The Indian duo defeated Aatish Lubah and Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius by 21-8, 21-14 score in the final match.

7. Former Indian women’s cricketer Shantha Rangaswamy (63) became the first female cricketer to be nominated for the BCCI’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

8. Lipstick Under My Burkha has won the audience award at the Glasgow Film Festival. It has been directed by Alankrita Shrivastava. The film stars Ratna Pathak Shah and Konkona Sensharma in key roles. Recently, it was refused certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

9. The Union Government has asked all banks to provide mobile banking facility to all customers by March 31, 2017. This is part of the government’s efforts to boost the digital payment system.

10. The Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has launched week-long “Swachh Shakti Saptah” campaign to emphasize on active involvement of women in the Swachh Bharat Mission.

11. South Korean and United States held large-scale joint military exercise called Foal Eagle to test their defence readiness against the threat from North Korea. It will continue until the end of April 2017.

12. Senior IAS officer Ajay Tyagi took charge as ninth Chairman of markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). He succeeded U K Sinha, who completed his six-year tenure.

13. Telecom Secretary J S Deepak was appointed as India’s next Ambassador to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

14. Popular Gujarati writer, noted play writer and famous humorist Tarak Mehta passed away. He was 87. He was best known for his weekly column “Duniya Ne Undha Chasma” published in Mumbai based Gujarati news weekly “Chitralekha”.

15. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has appointed Portugal’s Luis Norton de Matos (63) as the head coach of the India’s Under-17 team for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup scheduled to be held in October 2017 in India.

16. Indian ace shooter Jitu Rai won gold medal in 50 metre air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup held in New Delhi.

17. First Regional Conference of Eastern States on enhancing steel consumption in India was held in Gangtok, Sikkim.

18. India and Oman agreed to enhance cooperation between their navies during the talks of Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba with top defence brass of Oman. Decision in this regard was taken after Navy Chief Admiral visited Oman on the second leg of his two-nation tour.

19. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has won the annual visitor’s award for the Best University 2017.

20. Pakistan Government has approved merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

21. US has successfully launched classified satellite dubbed NROL-79 of National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) in the space. It was launched on board of the Atlas 5 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.

22. Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova was given a wildcard to play in the Italian Open to be held in May 2017.

23. Senior Pakistani diplomat Amjad Hussain B Sial assumed charge as new Secretary-General of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

24. The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) has proposed the setting up Women’s Entrepreneurship Council for taking up with the government the problems faced by business women. The Council will be modelled on the lines of chambers of commerce. It will seek to resolve issues through policy changes.

25. The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has issued a notification making mandatory for students to have an Aadhaar card to get served cooked meal under the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Scheme.

26. India for first time will host International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV2017). It will be hosted in collaboration with United Nations University and UNESCO.

27. Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir have signed a Secretary level fresh pact for the fast-track completion of the much-delayed 206 megawatt (MW) Shahpur Kandi dam project on the Ravi river. It is located 11 km downstream Ranjit Sagar Dam. Shapur Kandi project was declared a national project in February 2008 by the Centre.

28. Andhra Pradesh Government has renamed Tirupati Airport as Sri Venkateswara Airport and Gannavaram Airport as NTR Amaravati Airport

29. Veteran Manipuri politician and former Member of Parliament Yumnam Yaima Singh passed away in Imphal after a brief illness.

30. French football legend Raymond Kopa passed away in Paris after a long illness.

31. India’s tallest national flag measuring 360 feet was hoisted at Attari-Wagah joint checkpost in Punjab. It broke earlier record of national flag hoisted in Ranchi which is 293 feet high.

32. Iran’s advanced S-300 air defence system became operational. The system was delivered by Russia following Iran’s July 2015 nuclear deal with P5+1 nations.

33. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has captured an image of an incredibly massive galaxy dubbed as UGC 12591 that is 400 million light years away from the Earth.

34. Former President of Haiti Rene Preval passed away. He was 74. He was an agronomist and champion of the poor.

35. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed P K Purwar as Chairman and Managing Director of state-run telecom major Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

36. Former IFS and MP Syed Shahabuddin passed away at the age of 82 after suffering from prolonged illness.

37. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the Revised Cost Estimate-I of 400 MW Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Uttarakhand at an estimated completion cost of Rs. 2,717.35 crore.

38. Special Commemorative Postage Stamp marking 100 years of Yogoda Satsang Math was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function in New Delhi. Yogoda Satsang Society of India was founded by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1917.

39. Social networking giant Facebook launched SheLeadsTech programme to nurture and mentor start-ups founded or co-founded by women. This programme will give start-ups founded/cofounded by women access to a year-long program that provides tools, mentorship and resources.

40. The Union Finance Ministry has given its in-principle approvals to public sector banks (PSBs) to offer Employee Stock Option plans (ESOPs) to their employees from FY 2017-18.

41. HDFC Bank launched electronic virtual assistant (EVA), India’s first artificial intelligence-driven banking chatbot, for customer services.

42. Noted socialist leader and former Lok Sabha speaker Rabi Ray passed away. He was 91.

43. Paris based think tank Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has cut India's growth forecast for this fiscal year (2016-2017) to 7% from 7.4% earlier (2015-2016) because of demonetization.

44. Top seeded Indian shuttler duo Tarun Kona and Alwin Francis won the Men’s Double title at the 2017 Uganda International Series by defeating Aatish Lubah and Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius, 21-8, 21-14 at MTN Arena Lugogo, Kampala.

45. India’s Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) shield got a further fillip with the successful test of an interceptor supersonic missile conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

46. The Indian navy successfully test-fired an anti-ship missile for the first time from an indigenously built Kalvari class submarine.
