1. Government to launch SAMPADA scheme for food processing
1. The Union Ministry of Food Processing is going to launch Scheme for Agro-Marine Produce Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters (SAMPADA) for food processing sector. 2. The scheme will integrate current and new schemes aimed at reducing food wastage and doubling farmers’ income by 2022. It will help to create infrastructure for linkage of entire supply chain.


2. G20 Digital Ministerial Meeting on Digital Economy held in Germany
1. The G20 Digital Ministerial Meeting on Digital Economy was held in Dusseldorf, Germany. Ministers responsible for the digital economy from G20 countries had participated in it. It concluded with adaptation of declaration on ‘Shaping Digitalisation for an Interconnected World’.


3. Petrol, diesel prices to change daily from May 1
1. Come May 1, petrol and diesel prices will change every day in sync with international rates, much like what happens in most advanced markets.
2. State-owned fuel retailers Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL), which own over 95 per cent of nearly 58,000 petrol pumps in the country, will launch a pilot for daily price revision in five select cities from May 1 and gradually extend it to all over the country.


4. Karnataka Bank gets new MD and CEO
1. Karnataka Bank Ltd has announced top-level management changes with the present Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO) of the bank, P Jayarama Bhat, assuming the charge of part-time non-executive Chairman of the bank .
2. The Chief General Manager of the bank, Mahabaleshwara MS, who is appointed as MD and CEO of the bank, will assume office on April 15.
3. The board of directors of the bank, which met in Mangaluru on Wednesday, appointed Mahabaleshwara as MD and CEO of the bank for a period of three years from the date of assuming charge, as per the approval received from Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which was in accordance with the board’s earlier recommendation.


5. Parliament passes HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2017
1. Parliament has passed the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2017. It is the first national HIV law in South Asia. 
2. The Bill seeks to safeguard the rights of people living with HIV and affected by HIV. It aims to prevent social stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV (PLHIV).


6. Government sets up inter-ministerial panel to monitor UDAN
1. The Union Government has set up an ‘Inter- Ministerial Monitoring-cum-Coordination Committee’ to monitor the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) scheme. 
2. UDAN is regional air connectivity scheme (RCS) which seeks to make flying affordable by connecting unserved and under-served airports.


7. Government reduces number of centrally sponsored schemes to 28
1. The Union Government has reduced the number of centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) from 66 to 28 umbrella schemes, effective from the financial year 2016-17. 
2. These schemes were reduced based on the recommendation of the sub-group of Chief Ministers on rationalisation of centrally sponsored schemes.


8. Malala Yousafzai, the youngest noble prize winner to address Canadian Parliament
1. Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Prize laureate, becomes the youngest noble prize winner to address Canadian parliament.
2. She has also officially received the honorary Canadian citizenship bestowed upon her in 2014 by Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.
