1. Uttar Pradesh signs “Power for All” agreement with Union government

1.The Uttar Pradesh government has signed “Power for All” pact with the Centre to provide 24×7 power supply to all the households in the State. With this signing of the agreement, Uttar Pradesh which was the only state in the country which did not join the central government scheme has finally joined in it. 
2. The previous government in the state did not show interest in joining the Power for All initiative of the central government. As a part of energy efficiency measures, 10,000 energy efficiency solar- panel pumps will be distributed through Centre’s undertaking, Energy Efficiency Services (EESL). In addition, it has been agreed to distribute energy efficient bulbs, tube lights and fans at cheaper rates.


2. PM launches cashless/less cash township models across 12 states

1. Prime Minister has launched 81 cashless/less cash townships across 12 states in Nagpur. The 81 townships included 56 in Gujarat and 25 in 11 states including Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Chhatisgarh. 
2. The model of cashless/less cash township was developed by Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (GNFC) across these States under the auspices of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog. GNFC’s township at Bharuch (Gujarat) had become India’s first 100% cashless township after demonetization. It is expected that these 81 townships will deliver 2.5 lakh cashless transactions per day, translating into 9 crore cashless transactions in a year.


3. Nepal and China to conduct Sagarmatha Friendship-2017

1. Nepal and China is all set to hold their first ever joint military exercise named ‘Sagarmatha Friendship-2017’ from April 17 to April 26. The 10 day long joint exercise will focus on combating terror and disaster management. 
2. Although, Nepal conducts joint exercises with other countries like India and United States, this is the first time it is holding a joint exercise with China. 
3. The joint exercise comes at the backdrop of Nepal’s proposal of such exercise having focus on disaster management during Chinese Defence Minister, General Chang Wanquan’s official visit to Nepal on March 24. Sagarmatha is the Nepali name for Mt Everest, which stands in between both the countries.


4. Former J&K Governor Girish Chandra Saxena passes away

1. Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Saxena has passed away at the age of 90. Saxena was an Indian Police Service officer of the 1950 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. 
2. He served two terms as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir. First term from May 26, 1990 till March 13, 1993 and the second from 1998 to 2003. Saxena also served as the head of Research and Analysis Wing from 1983 to 1986, and also as an advisor to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.


5. Prime Minister launches BHIM-Aadhaar platform

1. Prime Minister has launched BHIM-Aadhaar platform from Nagpur. BHIM-Aadhaar platform is the merchant interface of the BHIM App that has been launched for making digital payments using the Aadhaar platform. 
2. BHIM App was launched in December 2016 to provide a one-stop solution for all digital payments. The App created a new world record by registering 1.9 crore downloads within four months since its launch.
