1. Defence Acquisition Council clears proposals worth Rs 1,900 crore
1. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has cleared proposals worth 1,900 crore rupees (close to $3 billion). All these approved proposals will be executed under ‘Buy India’ by Indian contractors. Decision in this regard was taken by DAC meeting chaired by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in New Delhi.
2. Proposals cleared by DAC are 
i. Weapons repair facility at Port Blair at a cost of Rs 450 crore. Anti-tank guided missiles for training purpose of the army. It is worth of 405 crore rupees. 
ii. Electronic warfare system for low intensity conflict in Jammu and Kashmir. It is worth of 330 crore rupees. 
iii.Mumbai based Defence shipyard Mazagon Dock will get a repair facility for Scorpene submarines at cost of Rs 725 crore. The dock is constructing six Scorpene submarines for Indian Navy.

1. Union Cabinet approves ratification of the Paris Agreement

1. The Union Cabinet has given its approval to ratify the Paris Agreement (on Climate Change) on Gandhi Jayanti i.e. on 2nd October 2016. The Paris Agreement was adopted by 185 nations in December 2015. India had signed the agreement in New York in April 2016. So far, 191 countries have signed the agreement.
2. The Paris treaty on Climate Change will come into force when 55 countries contributing to 55 % of total global emission ratify the agreement. So far, 61 countries have deposited their instruments of ratification, approval or acceptance accounting in total for 47.79% of the total global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

1. India ranks 39th in 2016-17 Global Competitiveness Index
1. India has been ranked 39th among the 138 countries in the 2016-17 Global Competitiveness Index (GCI). The index was released as part of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report for 2016-17.
2. Top 5 Countries: Switzerland (1st), Singapore (2nd), United States (3rd), Netherlands (4th) and Germany (5th).
3. BRICS Countries: China (28th), Russia (43rd), South Africa (47th) and Brazil (81st).

Uttam Singh to be honoured with Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement
1. Veteran music director and violinist Uttam Singh on 27 September 2016 was named for the 2016 Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement of the Maharashtra Government.
2. The award carries a citation, a trophy and 500000 rupees in cash.

1. PSLV injects SCATSAT-1, seven other satellites into orbit

1. PSLV-C35, ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle successfully launched the 371-kg SCATSAT-1 satellite along with seven co-passenger satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota.
2. This is the 36th consecutive successful mission of PSLV. The total weight of all the eight satellites carried on-board PSLV-C35 was 675 kg.
3. PSLV-C35 is the first PSLV mission to launch satellites carried onboard into two different orbits. This mission was the longest of the PSLV missions conducted till date and was completed in 2 hours 15 minutes and 33 seconds after lift-off.
