1. Union Government sanctioned 1000 crore rupees for Indo-Bangla Rail Link
Union Government  sanctioned 1000 crore rupees for the laying of 15.06 km long tracks to connect Indian Railways with Bangladesh through the North East.
The Indo-Bangla Rail link would be completed by 2017 and the entire route will be constructed by IRCON.
Out of 15.06 km length connecting Agartala with Akhaura railway junction in Bangladesh, 3.7 km would comprise of elevated corridor.
The completion of the project would reduce the distance from Agartala to Kolkata from 1650 km to 515 km and difficult hilly terrain could be avoided.
It will also improve trade and commerce between the North-East region of India and Bangladesh and enhance people to people contact
The project is the result of discussion between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina during the Modi’s visit to Dhaka from 6 June to 7 June 2015.


2. World's largest flower Amorphophallus Titanum bloomed at Jindai Botanical Gardens in Tokyo

World’s largest flower Amorphophallus Titanum bloomed for the first time in 5 years 

in the fourth week of July 2015 at the Jindai botanical gardens in Tokyo, Japan.
The flower Titan arum measuring 2-meter (6.5 feet) in height rarely flowers and is notoriously difficult to propagate.
It is commonly called the corpse flower because it smells like rotting meat that helps attract pollinators such as beetles and flies. Moreover, it only last for few days.
It is native to the rainforests of western Sumatra in Indonesia, the flower grows on steep hillsides between 120 to 365 meters (400 to 1200 feet) above sea level but its existence is now under massive threat from widespread deforestation.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has classified the species as "vulnerable", just below endangered.

3. Jaitley introduces bill to replace Negotiable Instruments ordinance
The Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday introduced in the Lok Sabha a new bill that sought to replace the Negotiable Instruments ordinance promulgated in mid-June this year.
This bill – Negotiable Instruments (amendment) Bill 2015 – seeks to provide a place of jurisdiction that is fair to both the complainant and the accused (in cases filed for dishonour of cheques).
The objective is to ensure a fair trial in cheque bounce cases.
The Modi-led government had to issue an ordinance so as to fast-track resolution of cheque-bounce cases.
The ordinance had sought to remove the ambiguity on territorial jurisdiction over dishonour of cheques.
This ordinance had provided that all cheque-bounce cases can be filed only in a court within whose local jurisdiction the bank branch of the payee is situated, and where the payee presents the cheque for payment.
This was the 14th ordinance issued by the Modi government since it assumed office late last May. The new ordinance had also addressed the difficulties that arose out of the Supreme Court’s 2014 judgment in the Dashrath Rupsingh Rathod versus State of Maharashtra case.
In its ruling, the apex court held that the territorial jurisdiction for dishonour of cheques is restricted to the court within whose local jurisdiction the offence was committed – which, going by the context of the case, is where the cheque is dishonoured by the bank on which it is drawn.

4. Axis Bank signs $200 mn bilateral loan with Asian Development Bank
Axis Bank, India’s third largest private sector bank, has signed a $200 million 7-year bilateral loan deal with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), headquartered in Philippines.
The deal will help bolster Axis Bank’s efforts of improving farm efficiency by extending customized and affordable agriculture credit to farmers. The bank would effectively leverage its extensive semi urban and rural branch network to deliver agriculture credit, Axis Bank said in a statement.

5. Team Sky cyclist Chris Froome of Britain won 102nd Tour de France
Chris Froome, a cyclist from Team Sky of Britain, won 102nd Tour de France in a three-week slog of furious race around the Champs Elysees, Paris. With this, Froome became the first Briton to win the Tour de France for the second time.
Froome made his mark in the mountain stage to La Pierre St Martin in the 10th stage before riding defensively to leave behind Nairo Quintana Rojas, a Colombian racing cyclist, by 72 seconds. The third-place was secured by Alejandro Valverde, cyclist from Spain.
The Team Sky now has three victories in its pocket. The first vistory was marked by former Team Sky leader Bradley Wiggins claiming the 2012 edition, followed the two victories of Froome in 2013 and 2015. British riders now have three Tour de France victories out of the last four Grand Boucles.

6. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel of Germany won Hungarain Formula One Grand Prix
Sebastian Vettel of Germany and the Ferrari driver  won the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix in Budapest. This was Vettel’s second win of the season and it came only days after the funeral of the Mercedes French former test driver Jules Bianchi.
Also, this win was Vettel’s 41st overall, putting him level with the late triple champion Ayrton Senna on the all-time list, and first in Hungary.
 The second and third place was taken by Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat of Russian and Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo of Australia respectively.
Although the leader of the 2015 F1 season Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton of Britain came in at sixth position but he still remained on top of the overall drivers standing with 202 points.

7. 16th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas observed across the country
The 16th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas observed across the nation on 26 July 2015. On this day in 1999 Indian Army defeated Pakistan Army in the Kargil War.
The observance of the day in 2015 was marked with paying tribute to Kargil War heroes by laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti in Delhi by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and three service chiefs - Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and Navy chief Admiral RK Dhowan.

8. Co-optex ties up with Flipkart, Snapdeal
Wooing the younger generation, Co-optex has tied up with online stores Flipkart and Snapdeal to make available its entire range of products.
The recent growth in online business has necessitated the company to expand the reach of its e-commerce portal, targeting both domestic and overseas buyers. It had recently carried out sales worth ₹10 lakh through online platform in the last three months through more than 350 confirmations, TN Venkitesh, Managing Director, Co-optex, said.
The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society popularly known as Co-optex has also joined hands with Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF) Season 9 to showcase its various products including weaving of the Kancheepuram sarees in the craft festival at Kozhikode.
As the trend towards cotton clothing is on the rise, he said Co-optex is looking at introducing organic kurthis, salwar kameez, linen shirts etc. The introduction of organic sarees is in line with encouraging zero environment pollution through the usage of natural dyes and vegetable colours for production.

9. Govt to invest Rs 6,000 cr PF money in equities by March 2016
The process to invest provident fund monies into equity markets has begun. It will be done in five tranches this year and a total of Rs. 6,000 crore will be invested by March 31, 2016.
The government is targeting to invest 5-15 per cent of the PF reserves in the long term equities. "It will give more than returns. It can give up to 10 per cent as against the 8.75 per cent we are giving to the PF account holders.
"We will invest in tranches of one per cent each (of the total kitty with PF managers) in the next few months, " Union Minister of Labour Bandaru Dattatreya
