1. Sushma Swaraj inaugurated Rise of Digital India Exhibition in Colombo
1. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj  inaugurated the Rise of Digital India Exhibition in Colombo. The exhibition was a part of Sangam -The Festival of India in Sri Lanka 2015-16.
2. Swaraj was on a two day visit to Sri Lanka to co-chair the 9th session of the India-Sri Lanka Joint Commission meeting along with her Sri Lankan counterpart, Mangala Samaraweera.
3. The Rise of Digital India exhibition showcases the initiative of Indian government to take the benefits of Information Technology to the common man. The exhibition is a part of six month long Festival of India celebrations in Sri Lanka.

2. Zimbabwe's President declared a state of disaster in rural parts of the country
1.Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe declared a state of disaster in rural parts of the country hit by a drought. This declaration of disaster will allow international donors to raise money quickly to provide food aid to the nation.
2. An estimated 2.4 million people are now in need of food aid, more than a quarter of the population. The government also urged Zimbabweans not to panic, as it is importing maize from neighbouring Zambia.
3. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in January 2016 said some 14 million people face hunger in southern Africa because of a drought that has been exacerbated by the El Nino weather phenomenon. South Africa, Namibia and Botswana have also been badly hit.

3. Alejandro G Inarritu bags DGA honour for ‘The Revenant’
1. The Revenant director Alejandro Gonzalez has received his second consecutive Directors Guild of America award for best feature film at the 68th annual DGA Awards.
2. Last year, Inarritu won the same award for Birdman and went on to win three Oscars for best picture, original screenplay and director.
3. Inarritu saw off competition from Tom McCarthy for Spotlight, Adam McKay for The Big Short, George Miller for Mad Max: Fury Road and Ridley Scott for The Martian.

4. 12th South Asian Games inaugurated in Guwahati
1.Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the 12th South Asian Games 2016 open at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Guwahati, Assam. 
2. The South Asian Games demonstrate 3-Ts and they are Team Work, Togetherness and Talent.
3. Earlier the players of all 8-participating nations marched past a crowd of thousands who cheered for them with applause. Squash Player Gaurav Ghoshal was the flag bearer of the 521-member Indian contingent.
About 12th South Asian Games open
• Over 2500 athletes from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives will be part of the games that will be co-hosted by Meghalaya Capital, Shillong. 
• A total of 228 events in 23 sports disciplines will be played during the games for the next 11 days.
• Games slogan is ‘Play for Peace, Progress and Prosperity’.
• Tikhor, a one-horned rhino that represents endangered fauna of Assam found in Kaziranga National Park is the official mascot of the event.
• India is hosting the game for the third time. First was held in 1987 in Kolkata, West Bengal and second time in 1995 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
• The 12th South Asian Games, 2016 is the first international multi-sporting mega event in the North Eastern region. 

5. Union Government to set up National Organic Farming Research Institute in Sikkim
1. The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare  decided to set up the National Organic Farming Research Institute in Sikkim.
2. The decision to this effect was taken by the Union Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh and Sikkim Agriculture Minister Som Nath Paudyal in New Delhi.
3. The institute will be established by upgrading the existing Regional Centre of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in Gangtok.
4. The setting up of the institute is of primary importance for Sikkim as it was declared as the first organic farming State in the country in January 2016 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

6. Labour Ministry signed agreements with organizations engaged in employment & career activities
1. Union Labour Ministry  signed agreements with leading organizations engaged in employment and career related activities. The agreements were signed to exploit the potential of the National Career Service (NCS) project.
2. The MoUs signed with Uber, Quikr, Monster, Tech Mahindra, Babajobs, India Staffing Federation, Buzzmatic Ventures and GoldFish will help in widening the scope and scale of the project.
3. This partnership will also provide transparent and credible platform and save both employers and job seekers from possible fraudulent practices.
About National Career Service project
National Career Service (NCS) initiative was launched in 2015 as Information and Communication Technologies based platform for providing employment services to public. NCS aims to meet the aspirations of youth for jobs with the industry demand and has evolved a policy for entering into partnerships with leading organisations.
The Union Governement on 20 July 2015 launched the National Career Counseling Portal to modernize all government-run employment exchanges.
