1. Modi dedicates new digital app ‘BHIM' to nation

1. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched “BHIM: Bharat Interface for Money”, a digital app on Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
2. Built by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), this digital app BHIM is expected to evolve as the common UPI App. BHIM will turn out to be a sort of aggregator for all existing UPI-based offerings of banks.
3. Till date, each bank had come out with their own mobile banking App and gone live on UPI, which was a platform created by NPCI to facilitate faster and smoother digital payments.
4. Now, NPCI itself, through BHIM, has created a front-end UPI-based App for people to take advantage of UPI.
5. With the Prime Minister himself promoting BHIM, there is confidence among policymakers that adoption of BHIM and thereby UPI itself will take off in a big way. BHIM may evolve as common UPI for entire India.


2. Mulayam expels Akhilesh, Ramgopal from SP for 6 years

1. In a tough action, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today expelled his son and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as well as general secretary Ramgopal Yadav from the party for six years for “gross indiscipline”, a decision that will lead to a political crisis in Uttar Pradesh.
2. Making the announcement at a press conference here, Mulayam said the new Chief Minister will be chosen by the Samajwadi Party.
3. Flanked by brother Shivpal Yadav, who has been at loggerheads with the Chief Minister, Mulayam said he had taken the action against Akhilesh and Ramgopal to save the party which he had built through hard efforts.


3. RBI allows White Label ATM operators to source cash from retail outlets

1. In view of the difficulties being faced by White Label ATM Operators in sourcing cash from their sponsor bank(s) following demonetisation of high denomination Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 bank notes, the Reserve Bank of India has allowed them to source cash from retail outlets, subject to conditions.
2. The operations of WLAOs virtually came to a standstill as their ATMs hardly got any cash from their sponsor bank(s) after demonetisation of high denomination bank notes was announced on November 8.
3. Among the conditions prescribed by the RBI to source cash from retail outlets is a clause that WLAOs will be solely responsible for the quality and genuineness of currency notes dispensed through their ATMs. Only ATM fit notes can be used for this purpose.


4. Government meets PMUY target of 1.5 crore LPG connections

1. The Union Ministry for Petroleum & Natural Gas has met the 1.5-crore target for LPG connections that were to be added under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in the 2016-17 financial year. 
2. This Target was achieved within a span of less than eight months since the launch of the scheme which is implemented across 35 States/UTs.
3. Top five States with highest number of LPG connections are: Uttar Pradesh (46 lakh), West Bengal (19 lakh), Bihar (19 lakh), Madhya Pradesh (17 lakh) and Rajasthan (14 lakh). These states constitute nearly 75% of the total connections released.


5. President gives assent to Payment of Wages (Amendment) Ordinance, 2016

1. President Pranab Mukherjee has given assent to Payment of Wages (Amendment) Ordinance, 2016, to enable industries to pay wages by cheque or credit into the bank accounts of workers. 
2. The ordinance amends the Payment of Wages Act, 1936 to encourage cashless transactions. With this assent the ordinance becomes law as per article 123 of the Constitution.


6. FIPB clears 6 FDI proposals worth Rs 1,200 crore

1. The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) has approved six Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) proposals worth Rs 1,200 crore. Decision in this regard was taken by FIPB meeting headed by Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das. 
2. It has approved the proposals of, Star Den Media Services, Sanofi Synthelabo India, Idea Cellular Infrastructure Services, Menarini India, Boehringer Ingelheim India and Recipharm Participation.
