How to Prepare SSC CGL Tier III Descriptive Paper?

From this year SSC has changed a little bit in pattern and mode of exam. SSC has introduced a new paper i.e. Tier III in place of interview. As the Tier II is over and the candidates who are confident enough of qualifying Tier II are looking for the preparation of Tier III. As this is the first time that SSC is conducting this paper, so many students are not aware of its pattern. Some students are confused and don’t know how to prepare this exam.

Pattern of Tier III

1.Tier III will be a descriptive type paper of 100 marks

2.Exam will be conducted in Pen and Paper mode

3.Duration of Paper will be 60 minutes i.e. 1 hour

4.There will be questions of Essay Writing (250 Words)/ Precise Writing/ Letter Writing

5.This exam will be of qualifying nature but marks are included in the preparation of final merit

6.The paper will be bilingual i.e. you can write answer either in Hindi or English Language.

This paper is introduced to evaluate the writing skill of candidates.

How to Prepare for Different Sections of Tier-III

Essay Writing:
Read newspaper - From Good quality Nespaper like The Hindu or Indian Express read recently published important articles like demonetisation etc.
Read the editorial of well-known newspaper and build your own arguments related to the topics.
By reading newspaper you will learn the proper use of words, this will also help in improving grammar as proper grammar is required in writing skill so works on your grammar portion also.
Practice writing essay as it will build your confidence and help you during the exam time
Write your essay and get it evaluated by your friends, so that you can work on weak portion.
Try to write what you know about the topic as many students write whatever comes to their minds and it will affect their marks even after writing too much.
Buy a good book which contains a number of essay as it will provide you good content on important topics.

Letter/Application Writing:
The most important thing in letter writing is its format so you should know the proper format of both.
Introductory paragraph, main body and closing body should be in proper place as it will play a major role.
Avoid rewriting and cutting in letter/application writing as it will cast a negative impact on the examiner.
Practice makes a man perfect so write letter/application to evaluate your improvement.
Practice both type of letter i.e. formal and informal

Precis Writing:
Decide the main heading/ theme of passage after careful reading
Size of the precise should be less than the original paragraph.
Don’t write it as it is , understand what author want to convey
Write the meaning and message of paragraph in your own word.
