 1. Japan to invest Rs. 2.1 lakh crore in Indian projects over 5 years
Japan  pledged to invest Rs. 2.1 lakh crore ($35.5 billion) in a wide spectrum of projects in India over five years. These include infrastructure, clean energy and skill development.
Capping lengthy deliberations between visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, the two sides also decided to double the number of Japanese companies operating in India in five years.

2. Renowned Kathak dancer Maya Rao dead
Renowned Kathak dancer Maya Rao, who helped the dance form
gain popularity in South India, died here on Monday. She was 86.
Known for her mastery over abhinaya and dance ballet, Maya Rao died at a private hospital following a massive cardiac arrest, according to her only daughter Madhu Nataraj, Kathak and contemporary dancer.

3. Mars Orbiter Mission completes 300 days in space
In a major boost to the Indian scientific community, the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan), on its maiden tryst with the red planet, has completed 300 days of its journey in space and is just 23 days away from reaching its intended orbit.
"Mars Orbiter Mission completes 300 days in space. Just 23 days more to reach Mars", Indian Space Research Organisation said on its microblogging site.

4. Japanese researchers develop 30-minute Ebola test
Japanese researchers said  they had developed a new method to detect the presence of the Ebola virus in 30 minutes, with technology that could allow doctors to quickly diagnose infection.
Professor Jiro Yasuda and his team at Nagasaki University say their process is also cheaper than the system currently in use in west Africa where the virus has already killed more than 1,500 people.

5. Indians spend 60% of their household income: Survey
Affluent Indians plan to spend 60 per cent of their household income and save or invest the rest, according to the Visa Affluent Study 2014.
They are also highly involved in managing, protecting and growing their wealth with seven in 10 reading about financial and wealth management at least once a month.
“They spend an average of about Rs. 4.60 lakh per year on household expenses with groceries, shopping and food & beverages being the largest spend categories across all demographic groups,'' Visa said in a statement.

6. Sachin Tendulkar’s autobiography set to release on Nov 6
 The much—awaited autobiography of batting icon Sachin Tendulkar will hit the stands on November 6 with a high—profile release of the book in his home city Mumbai.
The book, titled ‘Playing It My Way’, will be published worldwide by Hodder and Stoughton and by Hachette India in the Indian sub—continent.
The book has been co—authored by renowned cricket historian and media personality Boria Majumdar.

7. Flipkart invests in ngpay
e-commerce firm Flipkart has made a strategic investment in mobile payments firm ngpay. Terms of the deal are not disclosed.
ngpay was founded in 2008 by Sourabh Jain. Meanwhile, Flipkart also said it would phase out its own payment product Payzippy launched last year.

8. Basel III capital norms revised

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday issued revised and final guidelines for raising non-equity regulatory capital instruments by banks under the stringent Basel III framework under which lenders can issue Tier-2 capital with a minimum original maturity of five years as against 10 years now. It further said banks could issue Tier-2 debt capital instruments to retail investors, subject to board approval.
“Banks may now issue additional Tier-1 capital instrument with the principal loss absorption through either conversion into common shares or write-down mechanism (temporary or permanent) which allocates losses to the instruments,” the regulator said in a notification.
The RBI said the new norms would be applicable with immediate effect.

9. Saina Nehwal to split with Pullela Gopichand, train with Vimal Kumar
One of the most successful coach-player partnerships in Indian sport may be coming to an end.
The combination of Pullela Gopichand and Saina Nehwal, which brought laurels to the country and made badminton more than a recreational sport, is reportedly splitting, at least for now.
It is learned that the 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Saina, who has nearly 20 international titles under her belt, has decided to move to Bangalore to train with former India coach Vimal Kumar ahead of the Asian Games.

10. CIL to spend Rs 235 cr for clean India initiative

Coal India Ltd (CIL) will spend Rs 235 crore for clean India initiative during this fiscal. The money will be used in building toilets in schools and in the houses of the under privileged. This is exactly half of the company’s CSR budget in 2014-15.



11. INS Sumitra to be commissioned on Sep 4
 The naval offshore patrol vessel INS Sumitra will be commissioned here Sep 4, according to a government statement.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R.K. Dhowan, will commission the vessel built in Goa Shipyard, the statement said
INS Sumitra has a displacement of about 2,200 tonnes.
The ship is manned by a crew comprising eight officers and 105 sailors with Commander Milind Mokashi as her first commanding officer.
The induction of INS Sumitra in the Eastern Naval Command and her basing at Chennai will enhance the offshore surveillance and maritime patrolling capability on India’s eastern seaboard in addition to giving a fillip to anti-piracy operations of the Indian Navy, the statement added.
