1. Highlights of RBI monetary policy review
Following are the highlights of RBI’s bi-monthly monetary policy statement:
Short-term lending (repo) rate unchanged at 8%
Cash reserve ratio unchanged at 4%
SLR retained at 22% to unlock banking funds
Estimates GDP growth at 5.5% for current fiscal
High Q1 GDP may not be sustained in Q2 and Q3
Q4 growth outlook looks promising
Targets 8% CPI inflation by Jan 2015, 6% by Jan 2016
Reduces liquidity under export credit refinance from 32% to 15%
Guidelines on small and payments banks by end-November
RBI to carry forward banking sector reforms

2. Asian Games: Mary Kom enters women’s flyweight boxing finals
 M.C. Mary Kom secured a berth in the gold medal bout of the women’s flyweight (48-51kg) after a convincing win in the semi-final of the 17th Asian Games on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old Indian beat Vietnam’s Le Thi Bang by 3—0 decision to enter the final.  


3. Wildlife numbers down by half in 40 years: WWF survey
 Wildlife populations around the world more than halved in the 40 years to 2010, a survey released on Tuesday said.
The report by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) International blames unsustainable human consumption patterns for an average 52 per cent drop in 10,380 populations of the 3,038 species surveyed.
“This latest edition of the Living Planet Report is not for the faint-hearted,” WWF International chief Marco Lambertini said. 


4. Indian boxer Pooja Rani settles for bronze
 Indian boxer Pooja Rani settled for the bronze medal after losing the semi-final of the women’s middleweight (69-75kg) category at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon on Tuesday.
Pooja lost 0-2, with the third judge giving a tied score, to China’s Li Qian at the Seonhak Gymnasium.

5. Asian Games: Indian girls win bronze in sailing
 Varsha Gautham and Aishwarya Nedunchezhiyan endured disqualification in one of the 12 races before claiming a bronze medal in the women’s two person dinghy Sailing event of the Asian Games, in Incheon on Tuesday.
Varsha as skipper and Aishwarya as crew finished with net 25 points.

6.  Microsoft to set up cloud data centres in India
 Microsoft will offer its commercial cloud services- Azure and Office 365- by the end of 2015 from local data centres in India where the company sees a $2 trillion business opportunity.
Satya Nadella, chief executive officer of Microsoft, announced this on Tuesday, saying that Microsoft would enable the “burgeoning entrepreneurial experience of Indians”.
“We have 10,000 partners working with us in India. We have opened up a huge opportunity for those 10,000 partners. One thing you can be sure of is that for every connected smartphone you need to have cloud infrastructure. We want to enable the burgeoning entrepreneurial experience of Indians. There can be no mobile-first without cloud-first world,” Nadella said.
