1. Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss crowned Miss World 2014
Miss South Africa, Rolene Strauss  was crowned Miss World 2014 at the final
of the beauty pageant held in London, UK. Strauss, 22-year-old fourth-year medical student at University of the Free State, was presented with the sash by the outgoing Miss World, Megan Young of the Philippines.
Rolene Strauss will now travel to the violence-hit Central American nation to build a school named in their honour.
Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar, was the runner-up and Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit, came third in the 64th annual competition, contested by women from 121 countries.
India's 21-year-old Jaipur-born Koyal Rana made it to the top 10 but failed to make it to the top five. However, she bagged the sub-title of Best Designer of the world. She also shared the Beauty With A Purpose title with Kenya, Guyana, Brazil and Indonesia.
Priyanka Chopra was the last Indian winner of the coveted title in 2000

2. Anerood Jugnauth appointed as Mauritius Prime Minister
Anerood Jugnauth was appointed as Mauritius Prime Minister by the President Purryag. With this, he became the Prime Minister of Mauritius for the sixth time following victory of his alliance in Mauritius elections 2014.
Jugnauth replaced Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Labour Party, who resigned as the Prime Minister on 13 December 2014.

3. Indian Aces Win Inaugural Edition of International Premier Tennis League
Novak Djokovic signed off in style at the International Premier Tennis League
 by thrashing Gael Monfils 6-0, but it was not enough for his UAE Royals to win the inaugural exhibition event on Saturday.
The Indian Aces, who had the likes of Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, and Ana Ivanovic turning out at different stages of the four-leg mixed tournament, lifted the trophy, a life-size tennis racket with ball, decorated with diamonds and gemstones.
UAE Royals were second, Manila Mavericks third, and Singapore Slammers last.
Each tie featured five one-setters, with games won rather than match results deciding the winner.

4. Japan teens Mima Ito and Miu Hirano became youngest table tennis champions
Japanese teens Mima Ito and Miu Hirano became youngest table tennis champions  in table tennis World Grand Finals.
The Table Tennis World Grand Finals was held in Bangkok.
Mima Ito and Miu Hirano took the women's doubles title by defeating  Natalia Partyka and Katarzyna Grzybowski of Poland with a score of 11-7, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5.
Also, they became the youngest ever winners to claim a 40000 US Dollar share of the prize money.
The Japanese teens had already defeated the Polish women at the German Open in 2014.


5. PM Narendra Modi launched Born Again on the Mountain by Arunima Sinha
Prime Minister Narendra  Modi  launched a book tittled Born Again on the Mountain by Arunima Sinha.  She is the first Indian amputee and first female amputee to climb Mount Everest.
The book is about her unforgettable story of hope, courage and resilience.
She was a national level volleyball player who was pushed out of a running train by thieves in 2011 as she attempted to fight them off.
The accident cost her left leg and sporting career, but it never deterred her. Two years later, she retrained as a mountaineer and became the first female amputee to scale Mount Everest.

6. Germany won men's Hockey Champions Trophy for the year 2014
Germany  won Hockey’s Champions Trophy for the year 2014. In the final match played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Olympic Champions Germany defeated Pakistan by 2-0 margin.
This was 10th Champions Trophy crown for Germany. It had last won the tournament in 2007.
This was the fifth Champions Trophy final played between Germany and Pakistan. Last time they had final clash in 1994, when Pakistan defeated Germany through penalty shoot-outs in Lahore, Pakistan.
Earlier for the third position and bronze medal, world champion Australia defeated India 2-1.

7. Miss World honoured Aishwarya Rai for charitable work
Miss World honoured Aishwarya Rai Bachan  for charitable work.  She was honoured with a special award at the Miss World 2014 ceremony in London.
The prize was announced to applause her charitable work since she crowned Miss World in 1994.
Aishwarya Rai Bachan appeared on stage with her husband Abhishek Bachchan, their daughter Aaradhya and her mother Vrinda Rai.

8. Indian Navy won the fifth edition of Admirals Cup Sailing Regatta
Indian Navy won the fifth edition of Admirals Cup Sailing Regatta . The International Sailing Regatta for the Admiral’s Cup was held at Ettikulam Bay, Ezhimala from 11 to 13 December 2014.
The Regatta witnessed a total of nine races and seventeen International Navies participated in the Admirals Cup 2014. Bahrain Navy and United Kingdom Navy teams came second and third respectively.
In the individual position of open category, Cadet Ebrahim Bin Sameer Al Shuwaitar of Saudi Arabia stood first. Cadet Ahmed Abdullah of Bahrain and Lieutenant Anke Dahlmann of Germany stood at second and third position respectively.
In the individual position for women’s category, Lieutenant Anke Dahlmann stood first.
The seventeen navies that participated in the event includes Australia, Bangladesh, Bahrain, China, Egypt, France, Fiji, Germany, Mauritius, Oman, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, UAE, USA, United Kingdom and India.

9. Prime Minister of Haiti Laurent Lamothe resigned following anti-government protests
Haiti's prime minister has resigned, after violent anti-government protests over delayed elections.
"I am leaving the post of prime minister this evening with a feeling of accomplishment," Laurent Lamothe said in a televised address.
Protesters had called for President Michel Martelly and Mr Lamothe to resign.
Mr Martelly was to have called polls in 2011, but they were postponed in a stalemate over electoral law.
Opposition politicians accuse President Martelly of wanting to rule by decree and that legislation that would authorise the vote unfairly favours the government.
The government argues that opposition politicians are dragging their feet in the hope of extending their time in office without elections.

10. Inflation hits a zero, lowest in over 5 years
 Wholesale price inflation hit the zero level in November, the lowest in about five-and-a-half years, on account of a decline in prices of food, fuel and manufactured items.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation was at 1.77 per cent in October and 7.52 per cent in November 2013.
According to data released by the Government today, food inflation fell to a nearly three-year low of 0.63 per cent. Food inflation has been on the decline since May.
This is probably the first time when WPI inflation has hit the exact zero level. The last time WPI was lower than this was (—) 0.3 per cent in July 2009.

11. Reliance Mediaworks sells Big Cinemas to Carnival
 Reliance MediaWorks Ltd and Carnival Cinemas today announced the signing of definitive agreements for sale of RMW's multiplexes business to Carnival Cinemas Ltd.
The proposed transaction will catapult Carnival to the ranks of the top 3 multiplex operators in the country, with over 300 screens nationwide.
Shrikant Bhasi, Chairman, Carnival Group, said “We are targeting to achieve 1,000 screens by the year 2017, and look forward to the continued support of Reliance Group in our future growth."
Reliance Capital will retain option to acquire pre-IPO minority stakeat appropriate discount on eventual listing of Carnival Cinemas
Sam Ghosh, CEO, Reliance Capital Ltd, stated, "The proposed transaction is in furtherance of Reliance Capital's stated objective of focusing purely on its core financial services businesses, significantly reducing exposure to non-core investments in the media and entertainment sector, and reducing overall debt."
The transaction will reduce Reliance Capital's leverage by approximately Rs. 700 crore, through a combination of transfer of debt of RMW and infusion of cash proceeds.
The deal excludes real estate owned by RMW at IMAX Wadala and other properties, which are intended to be separately monetised for an approximate value of Rs. 200 crore.
Reliance Capital will have the option to acquire a pre IPO minority stake in Carnival Cinemas at an appropriate discount, upon eventual listing of the company.
