1. Ankita wins maiden ITF singles title
Continuing her steady progress in the WTA circuit, India’s Ankita Raina
 overwhelmed British teenager Katy Dunne in straight sets in a one-sided final to lift her maiden $25,000 ITF singles title at the Deccan Gymkhana in Pune on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Ahmedabad-born player, who trains in this city, hardly broke a sweat while romping to a 6-2 6-2 victory over her 19-year-old British rival in the NECC-ITF women’s tournament.
This was the India no.1 woman singles player’s maiden $25,000 title and the 294-ranked Ankita expressed her delight over becoming the first from the host nation to clinch a title in the tournament after 14 years.


2. World Bank approves $75 mn project to help AP small, marginal farmers
 The World Bank has approved a $75 million (about Rs. 475 crore) credit for the Andhra Pradesh Rural Inclusive Growth Project to enhance agricultural incomes of small and marginal farmers.
The project, approved recently, seeks to ensure increased access to services related to health, nutrition, sanitation and social entitlements. It will target small and marginal farmers in the 150 most backward mandals of Andhra Pradesh covering 5,000 villages.
The project aims to invest in developing a network of social enterprises for food, nutrition, sanitation and other social enterprises which operate at community and district level and support the Andhra Pradesh Government in its efforts at creating an enabling policy framework.
“Over the years women-led community institutions in Andhra Pradesh have made significant impact in helping communities gain higher access to credit, education and assets, and in greater empowerment of women. However, despite these achievements, inclusion remains a challenge,” Onno Ruhl, World Bank Country Director in India, said.
The Project will help link small and marginal farmers to urban markets and make them competitive across the value chain. It will specifically support to increase the incomes of 250,000 small and marginal farmers by at least 50 per cent by enhancing productivity and improving their access to markets. This will seek to exploit growth opportunities for high value commodities such as red gram, milk, poultry, small ruminants, fisheries, turmeric, cashew, and coffee.
It will also work towards improving the coverage and service delivery of social protection entitlements for 500,000 poorest households, mainly from SC and ST households.

3. Andhra Bank raises Rs 500 cr tier-I capital via bonds
 Andhra Bank has completed raising of Rs 500 crore tier- I capital  by way of perpetual bonds.
``The yield was 9.55 per cent and we could get by about 85 basis points cheaper than what we were expecting some time back as the prevailing rate then was 10.40 per cent,’’ C V R Rajendran, Chairman and Managing Director told Business Line here on Friday.
There was market appetite and investors had faith in Andhra Bank as it could raise capital at cheaper rates than other banks which did the same in the recent past, he added. The bank had in October announced its plans to raise capital.

 4. Oldest litigant in Babri Masjid case Mohammad Farooq died
The oldest litigant in the Babri Masjid case Mohammad Farooq passed away  due to old age-related ailments. He was 100.
Farooq, a resident of Ayodhya, was one of the seven main litigants from Muslim side in the 1949 Babri Masjid case regarding placing of Lord Rama idols in the premises.
Now, the eldest son of late Farooq, Mohammad Saleem will inherit his legacy of the case and may become litigant in place of his father as per Uttar Pradesh’s Additional Advocate General and convener of Babri Masjid Action Committee Zafaryab Jilani.

5. India Donates $1 Million to UN-ESCAP Tsunami Fund
India donated $1 million as contribution to United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) fund for tsunami, disaster and climate preparedness in the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asian countries.
It was donated by Ambassador of India to Thailand, Harsh Vardhan Shringla on 26 December 2014 to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2004 Tsunami.
UN-ESCAP Multi donor Trust Fund aims to strengthen early warning systems for natural disasters like Tsunami and boost regional and South-South cooperation.
It also supports the activities that build resilience through strengthened early warning systems for coastal hazards.
It will ensure that vulnerable communities receive timely warning information that is required to save lives and livelihoods in disasters.

6. Noted Hindi poet Nand Chaturvedi died
Noted Hindi poet and a litterateur Nand Chaturvedi died  following a brief illness. He was 91.


7. Hyderabad to host World IT Congress in 2018
Hyderabad, capital of Telangana State is going to host prestigious World Information Technology Congress (WITC) in 2018.
Hyderabad- a global IT hub was preferred by organisers of this congress over the New Delhi and Bengaluru because it is equipped with necessary IT infrastructure.
Earlier, India and Hyderabad had emerged winner in the race to host the event after facing tough competition from European countries.
This event will coincide with the ambitious target of Telangana government to increase the software exports from Hyderabad to Rs1 lakh crore per annum in next three years.

8. 10th anniversary of 2004 Tsunami disaster observed
10th anniversary of 2004 Tsunami disaster was observed by all Asian counties that were hit by 2004 ferocious disaster. To mark this day, memorial ceremonies were held for the victims of this disaster in Indonesia, India, Thailand and Sri Lanka.
Indonesia- the worst affected nation by this natural disaster paid homage to the victims on Banda Aceh.
In Thailand and Sri Lanka people observed this anniversary with a series of solemn events and religious rites throughout the day.
In India, homage to the victims was paid by eastern coastal states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Andaman and Nicobar Islands (UT).
In this regard, floral tributes and processions were held across Tamil Nadu. While the fishermen associations and communities marked this day by not venturing into the sea.

9. Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited tied up with NYK Auto Logistics to set up Ro-Ro terminal
Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited (APM Terminals Pipavav)  tied-up with NYK Auto Logistics (India) Ltd to set up a dedicated Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) automobile terminal at Pipavav port in Gujarat.
