1. PM Narendra Modi launched Sukanya Samridhi Yojana under BBBP campaign
Prime Minister Narendra Modi  launched a small deposit scheme Sukanya Samridhi Yojana for girl child under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign.
The scheme will ensure equitable share to a girl child in resources and savings of a family in which she is generally discriminated against a male child.
Sukanya Samridhi Yojana will enable parents to open bank accounts of girls who are under 10 years of age.
About the Sukanya Samridhi Account
• Sukanya Samridhi Account will fetch an interest rate of 9.1 percent and provide income tax rebate.
• Sukanya Samridhi Account can be opened at any time from the birth of a girl child till she attains the age of 10 years with a minimum deposit of 1000 rupees.
• A maximum of 1.5 lakh rupees can be deposited during the financial year. The account can be opened in any post office or authorised branches of commercial banks.
• The account will remain operative for 21 years from the date of opening of the account or marriage of the girl child after attaining 18 years of age.
• To meet the requirement of higher education expenses, partial withdrawal of 50 percent of the balance amount will be allowed after the girl child has attended 18 years of age.


2. Arunachal Pradesh launches web-based education programme
Arunachal Pradesh today became the first state in the country to launch a web-based educational programme for all schools in collaboration with Google.
Christened as Chief Minister Global Education Programme, the education system would initially be launched in 50 to 100 schools of over 7,000 schools in the state and later extended to others in phased manner.
The system is a solution built for teachers and students through Chromebooks to bring the power of the web into classroom.
The system would provide free productivity tools to simplify and save time with classroom, Gmail, documents besides providing thousands of teacher-approved apps, books and videos through laptops and tablets. 

3. Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki sworn-in as governor of Punjab
Haryana governor Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki took over the additional charge of Governor of Punjab. He will be 34th governor of Punjab.
He was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Shiavax Jal Vazifdar at Punjab Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.
He was given the additional charge of Punjab after the tenure of then governor Shivraj V Patil  retired on 21 January 2015 after his tenure came to an end.

4. Telugu comedian and director M.S.Narayana passes away
Popular Telugu comedian and director Mylavarapu Surya Narayana has passed away in Hyderabad, Telangana. He was 63.
He is noted for his comic timing and facial expressions with witty dialogues in Telugu Cinema.

5. Yemen government resigns under pressure from Shia Houthi rebels
President Mansour Hadi of Yemen along with Prime Minister Khaled Bahah and his cabinet have resigned.
Yemen government’s resignation comes after the President agreed to the demands of Shia Houthi rebels, who had stormed his palace and private home in Sana’a (Capital of Yemen) earlier.
However parliament speaker Yahia al-Rai refused to accept the President’s resignation.

6. Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz passes away
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has passed away. He was 93-year old patriarch.
Abdullah’s brother Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is his successor and new King of Saudi Arabia. Salman in turn, has named his half-brother Muqrin as the new crown prince and his heir.
Earlier, king Salman was the Crown Prince and defence minister since 2012. He was also the Governor of Riyadh province for five decades before that.

7. R V Easwar appointed as Interim Chairman of DDCA
Former High Court judge Justice R V Easwar was  appointed as Interim Chairman of the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA).
Easwar was appointed by Delhi High Court following the plea of DDCA treasurer Ravinder Manchanda who challenged the 16 January 2015 order of trial court that directed the cricket body to not to convene any meetings till Bansal's plea is heard.

8. ECB launches €1 trillion bond-buying programme to revive euro zone economy
 The European Central Bank took the ultimate policy leap  launching a government 
bond-buying programme which will pump hundreds of billions in new money into a sagging euro zone economy.
The ECB said it would purchase sovereign debt from this March until the end of September 2016, despite opposition from Germany’s Bundesbank and concerns in Berlin that it could allow spendthrift countries to slacken economic reforms.

9. Gutenberg is communications partner for Obama’s India visit
 Gutenberg Communications has been selected by the US-India Business Council (USIBC) to be its communications partner for the US-India Business Summit, which will mark President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first-ever joint address to the business community.
USIBC is the premier business advocacy organisation representing America's top companies investing in India, joined by global Indian companies.
