1. Bangladesh confers Award of Liberation War Honour on Vajpayee
ormer Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was today conferred Award 
of Bangladesh Liberation War Honour for his “active role” in the country’s independence struggle and consolidating India’s friendship with the nation.
Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid handed over the award to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a glittering ceremony at Bangabhaban, the President’s house, which was attended by Premier Sheikh Hasina and top officials of her government.


2. UK Author Ali Smith won 2015 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction
UK Author Ali Smith on 3 June 2015 won the 2015 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction for her novel How to be Both.
Other nominees for the award were English author Laline Paull, Canadian author Rachel Cusk, Pakistani author Kamila Shamsie and Welsh author Sarah Waters.
Ali Smith, a Scottish author, has also won the 2014 Goldsmiths Prize and the Novel Award in the 2014 Costa Book Awards for the same book.

3. YES Bank shareholders approve Rana Kapoor's reappointment as MD and CEO
YES Bank shareholders approved 12 resolutions, including reappointment of Rana Kapoor as the MD and CEO, at its 11th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday. Kapoor's reappointment will be for a period of three years.
Madhu Kapur, the bank's second largest shareholder after Rana Kapoor and the widow of co-founder Ashok Kapur, has been in a legal dispute with YES Bank since June 2013, seeking rights to nomination of directors on the bank's board.

4. French open: Serena Williams wins 20th grand slam title
World number one Serena Williams survived a mid-match meltdown to beat Czech Lucie Safarova 6-3 6-7(2) 6-2 to win the French Open on Saturday, her 20th grand slam trophy.
The American, who skipped practice on Friday because of a bout of flu, opened up a 6-3 4-1 lead but suddenly slumped as the 13th-seeded Safarova stormed back into contention, even moving 2-0 up in the decider.
But Williams regained her composure and won the last six games to win the claycourt major for the third time after her 2002 and 2013 titles.
She is now third on the list of all-time major champions behind Australian Margaret Court (24) and German Steffi Graff (22).

5. India, Bangladesh ink 22 key agreements during Modi’s maiden visit
India and Bangladesh today inked as many as 22 agreements, including on curbing human trafficking, smuggling of fake currency and setting up an Indian Economic Zone, to boost bilateral ties.
The agreements were signed on the first day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden visit in the presence of other leaders, including Bangladeshi premier Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Land boundary agreement
Exchange of Instruments of Ratification of 1974 Land Boundary Agreement and its 2011 Protocol; Exchange of letters on Modalities for implementation of 1974 Land Boundary Agreement and a renewed Bilateral Trade Agreement were inked during Modi’s two-day visit.
Bus services
Agreements on two key bus services were also reached, including the Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala route that will benefit the commuters by reducing travel time by nearly one-third.
Another Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati route was also flagged off by the three leaders.
Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Prevention of Human Trafficking; Prevention of Smuggling and Circulation of Fake Currency notes; and setting up an Indian Economic Zone were also reached by the two sides.
US$ 2 billion line of credit
In another key development, a Memorandum of Understanding for Extending a New Line of Credit (LoC) of US$ 2 billion by India to Bangladesh was signed.
A renewed Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade besides an Agreement on Coastal Shipping between Bangladesh and India were among the other deals reached.
