1. Make in India initiative of DIPP won Frost and Sullivan’s 2015 Economic Development Innovation Award
Frost and Sullivan, a US-based Growth Partnership Company, recognised Make in India initiative of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Government of India.
In this regard, it presented the DIPP with the 2015 Asia – Pacific Economic Development Innovation: Policy and Program Implementation Excellence Award in Manufacturing.
The award was received by Amitabh Kant, Secretary, DIPP from Aroop Zutshi, Frost & Sullivan’s Global President and Managing Partner in New Delhi.
The award was given in recognition of its outstanding contribution to nurture India’s economic and industrial transformation through simplifying the regulatory framework, reinforcing connectivity and incentivising investments.
The Make in India initiative scored the highest score among the 100 countries in the GIL-100 Index: Manufacturing Index for 2015 on Manufacturing Excellence which was prepared by independent global experts through a detailed 10-step process.


2. MUDRA Bank disburses Rs 35 cr loan to Satin Creditcare
Micro Units Development & Refinance Agency (MUDRA) Bank has disbursed Rs 35 crore loan to Satin Creditcare Network Ltd (SCNL).
Delhi-based SCNL has become the first microfinance institution (MFI) in the Indian microfinance sector to have received a loan from MUDRA Bank.
H.P.Singh, Chairman, SCNL said that this loan from MUDRA Bank was a first for the Indian microfinance sector and steps would be taken to provide financial assistance to large number of households that are excluded from the ambit of mainstream financial service providers.

3. India-based Comparex India Pvt Ltd won Microsoft Country Partner of the Year Award 2015
An India-based software products and technology services company Comparex India Pvt. Ltd on 14 July 2015 won the prestigious Microsoft Country Partner of the Year Award for 2015. Comparex India Pvt. Ltd is headquartered in New Delhi.
The company was awarded along with 110 awardees by Microsoft at its Worldwide Partner Conference 2015. Another India-based IT company Quadrasystems.net was the finalist in the Cloud Productivity Partner of the Year category.

4. Andromeda acquires apnapaisa.com in stock, cash deal
Loan distributor Andromeda acquired apnapaisa.com, online loan solutions provider in a stock and cash deal.
“Andromeda with presence in more than 30 cities across the country with a 1000-staff strength is the largest loan distributor distributing around Rs. 8,000 crore per year…(with a) customer base of over 1 lakh,” Andromeda said in a statement.
The deal amount was undisclosed.
Apnapaisa.com, promoted by Harsh Roongta, is an internet platform to help customers find best possible loans.
Andromeda’s portfolio consists of Home Loan, personal Loan, Business Loan and Loan Against Property.

5. India’s first railway-line built under PPP model inaugurated in Gujarat
Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu  inaugurated the broad-gauge railway-line between Gandhidham and Tuna-Tekra Port in Gujarat by flagging off a goods train.
The rail line is India’s first railway-line built with private sector participation under Non-Government Railway (NGR) Policy 2012 of Indian Railways.
The rail line has been built at a cost of approx 185 crore rupees for M/s Kandla Port Trust (KPT) to bring about better and faster rail connectivity to Port of Tuna & Tekra.
The rail-line between Gandhidham, a town in Kutch district of Gujarat, and Tuna-Tekra Port, a port 20-km west of Kandla in Gulf of Kutch, was funded by M/s Kandla Port Trust (KPT) and Western Railway Zone of Indian Railways coordinated and pioneered it.
The project, approved by the Railway Board in October 2013, was completed in a record time of 12 months in May 2015 and was executed in two parts. The first part, viz., 11-km Gandhidham- Tuna Rail line was executed by Western Railway Zone as deposite work while the second part, viz., 6-km Tuna-Tekra line was executed by M/s Kandla Port Trust

6. Iconic musician Joan Sebastian passed away
Iconic Mexican musician Joan Sebastian passed away on 13 July 2015 after battling bone cancer for more than 15 years in Juliantla, Mexico. He was 64. He was also known as El Rey del Jaripeo (the King of Mexican Rodeo).
Born as Jose Manuel Figueroa, he was best known for his sentimental love songs such as Secreto de Amor and Tatuajes. He released more than 50 albums during his career mixing Mexican ranchera music and Latin pop. His career spanned for over 40 years.
On Billbord’s Regional Mexican Albums chart, he placed 10 hit albums at No 1 position, second only to Vicente Fernandez with 15 hit albums. He was also honoured by Billboard multiple times, first with Hall of Fame honors at the 2006 Billboard Latin Music Awards and then Voice Award at the 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards.
He won seven Latin Grammy Awards and five Grammy Awards, making him the most awarded Mexican performer in Grammy's history.

7. Defence Acquisition Council approved defence proposals worth 30000 crore rupees
Defence Acquisition Council on 14 July 2015 approved defence proposals worth over 30000 crore rupees for buying four more P81 long-range maritime patrol aircraft for the Indian Navy and to replace Indian Army’s vintage air defence guns of 60s.
The Council was chaired by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Detailed Proposals
• Acceptance of necessity (AON) to replace L70 and Zu 23mm guns for Indian Army’s air defence under Buy-and-Make category. Now, army will buy 428 guns at a total cost of 16900 crore rupees. It will now pave the way for issuance of a Request for Proposal (RFP). 
• Acquisition of 4 more P81 aircraft at a cost of 4380 crore rupees. These aircrafts are based on the Boeing next-generation 737 commercial airplane. It is a variant of the P-8A Poseidon used by the US Navy.
• Upgradation of weapon and sensor suite of the Delhi and Talwar class ships at a cost of 2900 crore rupees. 
• Moreover, Six ships will see new surface-to-air missile system that would be bought from Russia, besides new radars.

8. Sinhastha Kumbh Mela begins in Trimbakeshwar, Nashik
World’s largest religious congregation Sinhastha Kumbh Mela has begun at Trimbakeshwar, Nashik district of Maharashtra. The traditional religious ceremony began with flag hoisting ceremony and was followed by holy dip in Godavari River at Trimbakeshwar and Nashik by thousands of people. The ceremony was presided by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Trimbakeshwar while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presided over the ceremony at Nashik. Sinhastha Kumbh Mela is once-in-a-12 year event which is marked by participation of ‘sadhus’ from different denominations (known as akhadas) and lakhs of devotees.

9. CERN’s LHC discovers new class of particles called Pentaquarks
Scientists at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have discovered a new class of exotic subatomic particles called the Pentaquarks. The discovery was made by the scientist’s after watching the decaying of a subatomic type particle known as the Lambda B baryon.

10. Snapdeal re-launches open marketplace app Shopo
Online marketplace Snapdeal on Wednesday announced the launch of Shopo as a zero-commission open mobile marketplace which is targeted at small businesses and individual sellers. The buyers and sellers can directly interact through chat.
The company said it’s targeting one million shops online in the next one year through this app which is currently available on iOS and android.
The company had acquired this online marketplace in 2013.
With less than 0.1 per cent of the SMB’s having an online presence, the company said Shopo is trying to address this opportunity by creating a platform where shop owners can set online shops through a single step listing.
The company said chat will help buyers and sellers directly interact, negotiate and choose a mutually convenient mode of transaction as well as delivery.

11. Champions League T20 scrapped with immediate effect
Just a day after Supreme Court appointed Justice Lodha Committee gave 
a stinging verdict suspending IPL teams CSK and Rajasthan Royals for two years, cricket authorities on Wednesday decided to scrap the Champions League T20 tournament with immediate effect.
“The Governing Council of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) has confirmed that the CLT20 competition will be discontinued with immediate effect. The Governing Council of the CLT20, comprising representatives of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Cricket Australia (CA) made the decision unanimously,” a media release said.
“As such the 2015 CLT20 scheduled for September and October will not go ahead as planned,” said the release.
