1. India, Qatar MoU on tourism approved by Union Cabinet

1. The Union Cabinet gave its approval for signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Qatar for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism.
2. The main objectives of the MoU are:
• It will create favourable conditions for long-term co-operation in the field of tourism for the mutual benefits.
• It will help in exchange of expertise, publications, information/data and statistics related to tourism.


2. Sachin Tendulkar's name to be used in Kerala Government's Anti-Drug Campaign

1. This was announced by the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He said that the cricket icon has given his consent to use his name to strengthen the campaign against liquor and drug abuse in the state.
2. This agreement was reached when Tendulkar along with three other co-owners of the Kerala Blasters Football Club (KBFC) met Vijayan at the state secretariat. The other co-owners of KBFC are actor-turned politician Chiranjeevi, actor Akkineni Nagarjuna and Prasad.
3. Besides, KBFC also agreed to set up a residential Football Academy to train young talents in the state.


3. The Unseen Indira Gandhi authored by Dr KP Mathur released

1. A new book The Unseen Indira Gandhi authored by Dr KP Mathur was released in May 2016. Dr KP Mathur was personal physician of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for nearly 20 years till her assassination in 1984. 
2. The Book was published by Konark Publishers.The book provides some interesting peeps into the responses of Mrs Gandhi’s to challenges both personal and political.


4. Sri Lanka seam bowler Nuwan Kulasekara retires from Test cricket

1. Sri Lanka seam bowler Nuwan Kulasekara announced his retirement from Tests with immediate effect on 1 June 2015. He continues his career in limited over cricket.
.2. The 33-year old seamer played 21 Test matches for Sri Lanka and picked up 48 wickets since his debut in April 2005.


5. Union Cabinet approves MoU between DGCA and French Civil Aviation Authority

1. The Union Cabinet gave its ex-post facto approval to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India (DGCA) and the French Civil Aviation Authority.
2. The MoU was signed to implement Technical Cooperation Programme for promotion and implementation of Standards and Recommended Practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). 
3. Highlights of the MoU
• The Technical Cooperation programme will be beneficial for enhancement of skills and expertise of DGCA’s officers. 
• This MoU is also beneficial for implementation of the cooperation between the two parties for imparting training of engineers, technicians, managers etc. 


6. Union Cabinet approves setting up of India Post Payments Bank

1. The Union Cabinet has given its approval for setting up the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) as a Public Limited Company under the Department of Posts. 
2. It will have 100% Government of India (GOI) equity and shall be established with total expenditure of 800 Crore rupees. Now, the IPPB will obtain banking licence from RBI by March 2017 and by September 2017.
3. IPPB will start operations in March 2017 in about 50 districts and will cover the entire country by the end of FY 2018-19. It will generate employment opportunities for about 3,500 skilled banking professionals, will set up 650 branches and 5,000 ATMs across the country. Services of IPPB will be available across the country through its 650 payments bank branches.


7. India, Morocco launch Chamber of Commerce and Industry to boost trade

1. India and Morocco have launched the India-Morocco Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMCCI) in Moroccan capital city Rabat. 
2. The IMCCI was jointly launched by visiting Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari and Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane. Hamid Ansari’s visit is the first by an Indian Vice President in 50 years to Morrocco.


8. Rahul Johri takes charge as first ever CEO of BCCI

1. Rahul Johri took charge as first ever chief executive officer (CEO) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra. 
2. The appointment and creation of post of BCCI CEO was based on the lines of key recommendations of the three-member Justice RM Lodha Committee. 
3. As a CEO, Mr. Johri will directly report to the BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke and shall have freedom to work independently in BCCI’s set-up that was traditionally controlled by honorary office-bearers.
He will be responsible for the smooth functioning of operations, stakeholder management of BCCI and also build robust strategies for further promoting the sport of cricket.

9. Sasikumar takes over as MD of State Bank of Travancore
1. CR Sasikumar has taken over as Managing Director of State Bank of Travancore (SBT), one of the associate banks of State Bank of India (SBI).
2. Sasikumar started his career as a probationary officer with SBI in 1978 and has since held several key assignments.
3. Prior to the present posting in SBT, he was Deputy Managing Director, Inspection & Management Audit, at SBI Corporate Centre in Hyderabad.
4. Assuming charge as SBT Managing Director, he said his immediate priority would be the management of non-performing assets (NPAs) and achieving a growth of ₹12,000 crore in advances and ₹16,000 crore in deposits, which the bank has set as its policy objective for 2016-17.
