67. India  donated Rs. 9.3 million (ZAR 2 million) to the Nelson Mandela Foundation to help it in its welfare work for the people of South Africa.

68. State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has signed a preliminary agreement to take an operating stake in Gujarat government firm GSPC’s KG basin gas block.

69. The 2016 International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) was observed across the world on 11 October 2016 with the theme Girls' Progress = Goals' Progress: What Counts for Girls.

70. Abdelilah Bekirane, leader of Morocco's Islamic Justice and Development Party (PJD), was appointed as country's Prime Minister on 10 October 2016. This will be his second term as Prime Minister of Morocco.

71.  India won the three-match test series against New Zealand, 3-0. In the third and final test played at Holkar Stadium in Indore, India wrapped up the New Zealand innings at 153 in 44.5 overs claiming a huge victory by 321 runs.

72. The 28th India and Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) and Second Bilateral Maritime Exercise have commenced at Belawan, Indonesia in the Andaman Sea. 

73. ICICI Bank  has successfully executed transactions in international trade finance and remittance using blockchain technology in partnership with Emirates NBD.

74. Ace Indian Shooter Jitu Rai has won the 2016 Champion of Champions pistol Award of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) for pistol shooting. 

75. The Union Government has decided to invest 15,000 crore rupees to increase the capacity of Panipat refinery in Haryana to 25 Million Tonnes from existing 15 Million Tonnes. 

76. The Maldives  pulled out of the Commonwealth calling as “unjust” the grouping’s decision to penalise the island nation over the circumstances that led to then President Mohamed Nasheed’s ouster in 2012 and the lack of subsequent progress in resolving the political unrest.

77. Senior IAS officer Ajay Kumar Bhalla was on 13 October 2016 appointed as the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). He succeeds Anup Wadhawan, who was appointed as Additional Secretary in the commerce ministry.

78. India and Russia on 13 October 2016 signed a bilateral agreement for cooperation in the development of a network of integrated infrastructure irradiation centres.

79. The 2016 World Sight Day (WSD) was observed across the world on 13 October 2016. The theme for the WSD 2016 is Stronger Together.

80. Union Cabinet approved MoU between Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) on General Cooperation with the BRICS promoted New Development Bank (NDB), along with other Development Financial Institutions of BRICS nations. This will be achieved through the BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism.

81. Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej (88), who was the world’s longest reigning monarch, died .

82. Billionaire brothers Shashi and Ravi Ruia have agreed to sell 98 per cent of Essar Group flagship firm Essar Oil to Russian oil major Rosneft and a consortium of oil trading firm Trafigura with private investment group United Capital Partners for $13 billion, making it the largest foreign direct investment in India.

83. The International Day of Rural Women was observed across the world on 15 October 2016. The theme for the day for the year 2016 is Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too.

84.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 'Shaurya Smarak', the war memorial in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The 'Shaurya Smarak' was constructed by the state government in honour of those who laid down their lives for the country.

85. India announced its decision to eliminate the . HCF-23 gas. The decision was made in line to its commitment to combat the threat emanating from climate-damaging HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons).

86. Bob Dylan won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature. Dylan was bestowed with the precious award for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.

87. Former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Renu Pall was  appointed as the Ambassador of India to Austria. Her appointment was announced by the Union Ministry of External Affairs.

88. Foreign lender Standard Chartered Bank (SCB)  tied-up with Uber under which its credit cardholders will get a cash-back of up to 25 percent for hailing cabs from the app across six countries.

89. The National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR) established a high altitude research station in Himalaya called HIMANSH. The station is situated above 13500 feet at a remote region in Spiti, Himachal Pradesh.

90. Virat Kohli was presented with the ICC Test Championship mace for leading his team to the top of the Test Team Rankings. On behalf, of ICC the mace was presented by former India captain and ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Sunil Gavaskar following the conclusion of the third and final Test against New Zealand in Indore.

91.  Global Hunger Index 2016 released: India ranked at 97th position.The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) released the 2016 Global Hunger Index (GHI).

92. The International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) is observed annually on 13 October across the world encourage citizens and governments to take part in building more disaster resilient communities and nations.

93.  The first World Tsunami Awareness Day will be celebrated on November 5, 2016 at the Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) 2016. The conference will organised from November 3 to 5, 2016 in New Delhi by the Union

94. The K.S. Valdiya committee in its report submitted to the Union Water Resources Ministry has concluded that Saraswati River so far considered mythical, existed.

95. Brazil won the first BRICS U-17 football tournament. In the title clash played at Nehru Stadium of Margo, Goa, Brazil defeated South Africa 5-1.

96.  Israel in October 2016 suspended co-operation with the UN's cultural agency, UNESCO, accusing it of denying Judaism's connections to the religion's holiest sites.It also notified the Israel National Commission of UNESCO to suspend all professional activities with the international organisation.

97. Andy Murray demolished Roberto Bautista 7-6 (7/1), 6-1 as he won the Shanghai Masters without dropping a set and slashed the gap on World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

98. China moved a step closer to establish its permanent space station by 2022 as it launched a spacecraft carrying two astronauts, in its longest-ever manned space mission, who would later join its second experimental space lab orbiting the Earth. Chinese astronauts Jing Haipeng, 50, and Chen Dong, 37, were blasted off into space by Shenzhou-11 (heavenly vessel) spacecraft at 7:30 am local time (5 am IST) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre near the Gobi Desert in northern China.

99. India and Hungary on 16 October 2016 signed two agreements to enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries.The first agreement is for cooperation in the field of water resources, including innovations in irrigation technology. The second agreement is for promotion of co-operation between Indian Council of World Affairs and its Hungarian counterpart.

100. Eminent writer C Radhakrishnan was selected for the Mathrubhumi Literary Award 2016 in recognition of his contribution to the field of literature.

11. Indian shuttler Sourabh Verma  clinched the men's singles title at the Chinese Taipei Open badminton.

102.  Indian boxer Neeraj Goyat retained his welterweight Asia title. In the final bout played in New Delhi , Goyat outpunched Australian Ben Kite 120-110, 119-109, 115-113.The fight was organised by the Professional Boxing Organisation of India.

103. The five-nation group of emerging economies BRICS has agreed to set up an independent BRICS Rating Agency in its efforts to challenge western hegemony in the world of finance.

104. The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed globally on 17 October for eradication of poverty throughout the world.

105. The eighth BRICS summit was held in Goa from 15 to 16 October 2016. The summit concluded with adaptation of Goa Declaration. 2. The two day summit was attended by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brazilian President Michel Temer and South African President Jacob Zuma. The theme for the summit was “Building Responsive, Inclusive and Collective Solutions”.

106. Prime Minster Narendra Modi  inaugurated three hydropower projects of 1752 MW capacities in Himachal Pradesh. Inauguration of new hydropower projects will change economic horizon of Himachal Pradesh. The three hydropower projects are
• 540 Megawatt generation capacity third phase of Parbati hydro power project of NHPC in Kullu district
• 412 Megawatt Rampur project of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd in Shimla
• 800 Megawatt Kol Dam power project in Bilaspur district

107. Ashok Leyland Ltd unveiled its Circuit Series electric bus. They are India’s first such indigenously made vehicle.

108. Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal was appointed as a member of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Athletes' Commission. Saina received a letter to the effect from the IOC President Thomas Bach on 17 October 2016.

109. India completed its nuclear triad by inducting country's first indigenously-constructed nuclear submarine INS Arihant into service.INS Arihant is the lead ship of India's Arihant class of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. The 6000 tonne vessel was built under the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project at the Ship Building Centre in the port city of Visakhapatnam.

110. Irom Sharmila floats new political party.The party, People’s Resurgence and Justice Alliance ( PRJA), will contest the Assembly polls in Manipur in 2017.

111. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the National SC/ST Hub here to provide support to entrepreneurs from the community. With an initial outlay of Rs 490 crore, the hub will work towards strengthening market access/linkage, monitoring, capacity building, leveraging financial support schemes and sharing industry—best practices.

112. Senior IFS officer Amandeep Singh Gill was appointed as the India’s Ambassador to the UN Conference on Disarmament, Geneva.

113. Kochi became the first Indian city to be officially declared as one of the venues for hosting the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. The tournament will be hosted in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium of the city.

114. Maharashtra Government launched Kaushalya SETU (Self-Employment and Talent Utilisation) initiative. The initiative, which is a skill development programme for students, is likely to generate employment for as many as 7.5 lakh people in state.

115. Indian Railways in the second week of October 2016 won the World Railway Shooting Championship Cup. The tournament was held at Saint Mandrier, France.

116. The Union Ministry of Shipping sanctioned the Capital Dredging Project for Ro Pax Ferry Services between Gogha & Dahej, in Gulf of Cambay in Gujarat.The step was taken as a part of promoting coastal shipping in the country under Sagarmala programme. It is one of the flagship projects under Sagarmala which aims to increase share of waterways transportation in modal mix to 10% from present level of 7% by year 2025.

117. Retired bureaucrat Sunil Kumar Mishra was on 19 October 2016 appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Odisha.

118. India has signed agreement with Russia to lease second Akula-II class nuclear attack submarine (SSN). The deal is believed to be worth about $2 billion.

119. India and China have conducted second joint military exercise “Sino India Cooperation 2016” in Ladakh region along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

120. Noted British statistician Sir David Cox (92) was awarded inaugural recipient of the International Prize in Statistics.

121. The Ministry of Urban Development and the Ministry of Railways signed an MoU under which railway stations and adjoining areas will be redeveloped on smart city lines for enhancing passenger amenities, easy access to stations, enabling optimal utilisation of land at railway stations.

122. The MoUs were inked in New Delhi after delegation level talks with the visiting State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi. Suu Kyi was on a three day visit to India. Agreements inked includes. MoU for designing an academic and professional building programme for insurance industry of Myanmar. The MoU was signed between Financial Regulatory Department of Myanmar and Insurance Institute of India.

123. Drug major Sun Pharma announced a new collaboration with International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) for developing the “first Made in India designer” dengue vaccine that targets all four serotypes.

124. Indian Navy has commissioned INS Tihayu, a Car Nicobar Class water jet fast attack craft (WJFAC). It was commissioned by the Flag-Officer-Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
