1. Govt sanctions Rs 900 cr for Swachh Bharat Mission
A total of about Rs 900 crore has been sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Urban Development and an amount of about Rs 700 crore has been released to States/UTs based on proposals received under Swachh Bharat Mission during 2014-15.
Implementation of the Mission is expected to pick up momentum from the current financial year onwards.
Gujarat leads the states in implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission during 2014-15. Out of the 2.70 lakh household toilets constructed during the last financial year, Gujarat alone accounted for 60 per cent of them having built 1.65 lakh household toilets.
Madhya Pradesh is second by constructing 99,151 household toilets followed by Karnataka with 4,697.
In promoting Solid Waste Management also, Gujarat led the states having reported 100 per cent collection and transportation of municipal solid waste in 120 of the 195 towns in the state.
 Swachh Bharat Mission was launched on October 2, 2014 with the objective of ensuring cleanliness in all the 4,041 statutory cities and towns of the country by October 2, 2019 which marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who had emphasized the importance of cleanliness soon after his return to India from South Africa.
The five year Swachh Bharat Mission is to be implemented at a total cost of Rs 62,009 crore with a targeted construction of 1.04 crore household toilets, 2.51 lakh community toilet seats and 2.55 lakh public toilet seats besides assisting 37 crore urban people in solid waste management.

2. India welcomes E3+3 agreement with Iran on nuclear programme
India has welcomed the understanding announced in Lausanne between Iran and the E3+3 on the nuclear issue. A significant step seems to have been taken with the agreement on the parameters of a comprehensive settlement to be negotiated by June 30, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday morning.
China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States form the E3+3.
The statement adds that India has always maintained that the Iranian nuclear issue should be resolved peacefully by respecting Iran's right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy as also the international community's strong interest in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear programme.

3. India ranks 119 on 2015 FM Global Resilience Index
 India has been ranked a low 119 out of 130 countries on an index that measures business resilience of nations based on economic, risk quality and supply chain factors, dropping seven notches from last year.
The 2015 FM Global Resilience Index has been topped by Norway for being the country best suited for companies seeking to avoid disruptions in their global supply chain operations.

4. Brendon McCullum conferred with Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for 2014-15
New Zealand cricket team captain Brendon McCullum on 1 April 2015 was conferred with the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for 2014-15. McCullum won the award for his remarkable performance both as a player and the captain during the 2014-15 season.
The highest cricketing honour of New Zealand was presented to him during the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Awards presentation ceremony held in New Zealand’s capital Auckland.

5. Former world champion hurdler Liu Xiang to retire
 China’s former Olympic champion hurdler Liu Xiang plans to announcement his retirement next week following years of nagging injuries, a local newspaper reported on Friday.
The Shanghai native has not competed since withdrawing at the London Olympics in 2012 after rupturing his Achilles tendon. He pulled out of the 2008 Beijing Games with a similar injury and years of treatment have apparently failed to fix the problem.
The 31-year-old Liu became one of China’s best-known athletes by winning the 110-meter hurdles title at the 2004 Athens Olympics in a then-world record time.
